The sale of Flanders Mansion

Flanders Mansion is a National Register Property located in the Mission Trail Nature Preserve. The city council of Carmel-By-The-Sea voted in December 1999 to sell the property. The "Flanders Foundation" was formed to resist the sale. The Flanders Foundation filed a variety of lawsuits against the city since 2005 to prevent the sale of the property, costing the town over $800,000 in legal fees.[2]

The city originally purchased the 15+ acre Flanders property, including the Mansion, in 1972 for $275,000. The mansion was built by the Flanders family in 1920.
