Squires earned her A.A. in Arts and Sciences from Everett Junior College in 1962. She then received her LPS from Missoula Vo-Tech in 1967.
Squires is a Licensed Practicing Nurse.
Squires previously served in the Montana House of Representatives of Representatives from 1987 to 2001. She then joined the Montana State Senate in 2003 representing the 48th district and served in that position until 2011.

2012
Squires opposes repeal of the Affordable Care Act. She said she "would support expanding Medicaid," and said that while natural resource development is good for the state in terms of jobs, benefits, and money to be used on schools, renewable energy should be brought forward as well for the sake of the environment.[1]
