A Carroll County School Sales Tax Implementation measure was on the April 5, 2011 ballot in Carroll County.

This measure was defeated

  • YES 872 (32.32%)
  • NO 1,826 (67.68%)Defeatedd[1]

This measure sought to implement a sales tax in the county set at a rate of 1 percent in order to benefit school facility needs. A school superintendent noted that the reason for pursuing this funding was that the schools could get further outside help as less money is available on the state level. Though some businesses noted that an increased sales tax could hurt local business, county officials noted that sales could pick up at any time regardless of the tax.[2] If this measure had been approved, it would have still needed to be implemented by the Carroll County Board and they could have chosen to set the tax at or below the 1 percent mark. The money from this tax addition would have been given to the schools based on their enrollment numbers.[3]
