Chaffee County Sales Tax Increase (November 2011)
This measure was defeated
- YES 1,417
- NO 4,802
This measure sought to increase the current sales tax by a rate of .25 percent in order to help pay for road and bridge maintenance costs in the county. A public forum was held to address the three county issues on October 4 and 6, allowing those to speak out both for and against the proposed tax changes.
There were questions on the ballot to address the issue of the county budget shortfall, though the exact type of measure had been still undecided by county officials in July. They noted that there will be some means to cover the budget gap of $300,000, either by means of an additional sales tax or vehicle use tax. The deadline to decide on the issue was July 22.
