A Channahon Park District Levy Extension measure was on the April 5, 2011 ballot in the Channahon Park district area which is in both Grundy and Will Counties.

This measure was approved in Grundy County

  • YES 158 (60.08%)Approveda
  • NO 105 (39.92%)[1]

This measure was also approved in Will County

  • YES 1,361 (58.09%)Approveda
  • NO 982 (41.91%)[2]

This measure sought to extend the current 5 cent property tax which was set to expire in the park district area. The money generated from this tax was used to fund construction of a new aquatic center in the park, but since it was renewed it will go towards maintenance costs which the district says it cannot continue to pay without this levy. If the measure had been defeated then local property taxes would have decreased, otherwise since it was approved the rate will stay the same.[3] The bond which payed for the aquatic center and which the levy was going towards paying off, ends this year. Park officials were hoping residents would approve this just because it was not a further increase to their property taxes and goes towards ensuring the aquatic center and other park facilities are maintained.[4]
