Brunner is a retired high school teacher and member of the Bay County Historical Society, board member of Friends of Bay City State Park and a founding member of Bay Future. Charles taught high school business for 30 years.
Brunner graduated from Delta College with an Associate's Degree in Business Administration and three more degrees from Michigan University: Bachelor's Degree in Business/Marketing Education and two Masters Degrees, in Business Education and and Secondary School administration.
