On November 4, 2008, Chestnut won re-election to the Florida House of Representatives from Florida's 23rd District, defeating Bernie DeCastro (R). Chestnut received 41,074 votes in the election while DeCastro received 17,408 votes.[5] Chestnut raised $84,078 for his campaign; DeCastro raised $4,021.[6]
