Charles S. Dean, Sr. (b. May 31, 1939) is a Republican member of the Florida State Senate, representing District 5 since 2008.

Dean served in the Florida State House of Representatives from 2002 to 2007. He joined the Florida State Senate in 2008 and serves as the Senate Majority Whip.

Dean was a College Intern for the City of Tampa Police in 1963. He also served in the United States Marine Corps from 1959 to 1964. In 1964 he was an Investigator for Florida Installment Land Sales. He then worked as Juvenile Counselor for the Citrus County Juvenile Court from 1972 to 1975. From 1965 to 1980 he was Director of General Services for the Citrus County School Board. Dean then worked as a Sheriff for Citrus County from 1981 to 1996. He is currently a Consultant and Cattleman.

Dean earned his AA from Central Florida Community College in 1962. He went on to receive his BS in Criminology/Police Administration from Florida State University in 1963. He then earned his MS in Criminal Justice from Rollins College in 1976. He later attended the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Sheriffs' Institute in 1983.

Dean won re-election in the 2012 election for Florida State Senate District 3. Dean ran unopposed in the Republican primary on August 14, 2012, and was unchallenged in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012.[1][2]


2008

On November 4, 2008, Dean won election to the 3rd District Seat in the Florida State Senate, defeating Susan Franks (D). Dean raised $491,892 for his campaign, while Franks raised $69,847.[3]
