Chattooga County Judge indicted in voter fraud investigation

Carlton Vines, a Chattooga county judge, was indicted on Friday in a voter fraud case. In the 2006 November election, Judge Carlton Vines was re-elected based upon an abnormal amount of absentee ballots. At polling places, Judge Vines received 1,943 votes to incumbent judge Sam Finster's 2,119 votes. In absentee ballot voting, Vines received 637 votes to Finster's 336, swaying the election to Vines. These irregularities have sparked suspicion. [1]
Vines has been indicted for conspiracy to commit election fraud, false swearing, and illegal possession of ballots. Judge Vines is currently on paid suspension for an unrelated DUI charge. Judge Jerry Westbrook is currently serving in vines position temporarily. [1]
