Peniston worked as a substitute teacher at Scott Carpenter Middle School from 2003-2006, was President of the Westminster Education Association form 1999-2003, and a social studies/foreign languages teacher at Scott Carpenter Middle School from 1971-1999. Teacher, Belgrade Public Schools, 1970-1971.
Peniston is a member of the National Education Association and Colorado Education Association, Westminster Citizen's Police Academy Alumni, and the Westminster Historical Society.[1]
Issues
Peniston provided answers to the Colorado State Legislative Election 2008 Political Courage Test. The test provides voters with how a candidate would vote on the issues if elected. She did not reply when asked her legislative priorities.[2]
Colorado Senate Bill 57
As a member of the Colorado House Education Committee, Peniston voted against Colorado Senate Bill 57, also known as the Public School Financial Transparency Act, a bill to create transparency in state education expenditures. Peniston received substantial campaign contributions from the Colorado Education Association, which lobbied against the bill's passage.[3]

Peniston won re-election in the 2012 election for Colorado House of Representatives District 35. She ran unopposed in the June 26, 2012, Democratic primary. She defeated Brian Vande Krol (R) in the general election on November 6, 2012.[4][5]
2010
Peniston ran for re-election to the 35th District seat in 2010. She had no opposition in the August 10 primary. Peniston defeated Edgar Antillon (R) in the November 2 general election.
