Jim Forrester served 20 years in the North Carolina state Senate

RALEIGH, North Carolina: Last night the Senate District 41 GOP executive committee selected Chris Carney to fill the unexpired term of Jim Forrester, who died on October 31, 2011.[1]

Carney, the Mayor Pro-tem of Mooresville, won out over David Curtis of Lincoln County. Iredell Republican Party chairman Jason Abernethy stated, "I am confident Chris Carney will honor the legacy of Senator Forrester. Mr. Carney is ready to hit the ground running in Raleigh and I am calling on Governor Perdue to approve this appointment without delay to allow the people in our counties to be represented."[2]

Forrester began his first term in the senate in 1991. He became Senate Joint Republican Caucus Leader in 2006 and served in that position until his death.
