Chris Garrett is a judge of the Oregon Court of Appeals. He was appointed by Governor John Kitzhaber on December 24, 2013 to replace David Schuman. Garrett commenced his judicial duties on February 1, 2014.[1][2] He was elected in May 2014 for a term that expires on January 3, 2021.[3][4]

Education

Garrett received his undergraduate degree from Reed College and his J.D. from the University of Chicago.[1]

Career

Garrett has practiced law with Simpson Thacher & Bartlett in New York and was a law clerk for Judge Dennis Jacobs of the U.S. Court of Appeals, 2nd Circuit. In 2002, he returned to Oregon. He joined the law firm of Perkins Coie in Portland. In 2008, he was elected as a Democratic Representative of the Oregon House of Representatives, representing District 38. He served as the speaker pro tempore in 2013, prior to his judicial appointment.[1][5]
