Sommer is the Vice President of Sunset Maintenance Company, her family's business. She also manages her husband's CPA firm. She has served as President of the Harvest Ridge PTO and the St. Charles Jaycees. She also volunteers with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.[2]

Elections
2012
Sommer won re-election in the 2012 election for Missouri House of Representatives, District 106. Sommer defeated Kyle Albert in the August 7 Republican primary election and defeated Morton G. Todd (D) in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012.[3][4]

Sommer defeated Paul Woody (D) and Bill Slantz (L) in the November 8 special election.[5] She won by a 38 vote margin.[6]
