Citizen

A citizen is a legal person defined as a member of a political community, usually a republic or democracy. The term derives from "city," as the first democratic republics were city-states. The term is used politically to designate a person with rights and obligations above and beyond the rights possessed (philosophically, sometimes legally) because his or her common humanity, and pertaining to the government under which the person is said to "belong."
