The language was modeled after a similar effort in South Dakota. In that state, legislators passed a state statute criminalizing abortion, which was later repealed through referendum.
Signature gathering
The group led a volunteer-only signature collection effort modeled after Michigan Proposal 4 that prohibited gay marriage. I its rumored the group collected as many as 300,000 signatures, but an official figure was not released by the group and it chose not to file any signatures.
