City of Carthage Question (2008)

The City of Carthage Question was on the November 4, 2008 ballot in Jasper County for voters in the city of Carthage. The measures sought to expand the boundary of Carthage.

Although this measure got a majority of votes saying Yes it did not get the required amount needed to pass, so it was defeated.[1]

Text of Question

Shall the City Limits of the City of Carthage, Missouri, be extended so as to embrace and include all that territory located in the County of Jasper, Missouri, commonly known as the Southwind Acres annexation area and as legally described below?

Beginning at a point 40 feet West and 70 feet South of the Northeast corner of Section 21, Township 28, Range 31 in Jasper County,
Missouri, said point being at the point of intersection of the West right of way line of Grand Avenue and the South right of way
line of Fir Road; thence South along the west right of way of Grand Avenue to the intersection of said West right of way of Grand
Avenue with the North line of Lot 8 of South Wind Acres as recorded in Plat Book 8, Page 6 in the Jasper County Courthouse; thence
West, along the North line of Lot 8 extended 660.75 feet to the Northeast corner of Lot 2 of said South Wind Acres; thence South
300 feet tot he Southeast corner of said Lot 2; thence West, 592.58 feet to the Southwest corner of Lot 31 of South Wind Acres;
thence North, to the Northwest corner of Lot 22 of South Wind Acres, said point being on the South right of way line of Fir Road;
thence East, 360.75 feet to the Northwest corner of Lot 21 of said Addition; thence South, 260.18 feet to the Southwest corner of
Lot 20 of said Addition; thence East 300.75 feet to the Southeast corner of said Lot 20; thence North 260.78 feet to the Northeast
corner of said Lot 21 and being on the South line of said Fir Road; thence East along said South line of fir Road to the Point of
Beginning.
This afore described real estate incorporates the property commonly known as Lots 1, 2 9-19 and 22-31 of the subdivision known as
Southwind Acres, and that property lying north and east of said subdivision bounded by Highway HH on the north and Route 571
(Grand Avenue) on the east.[2]
