A City of Vernon Election Procedures, Measure A ballot proposition was on the June 2, 2009 ballot in Los Angeles County for voters in the City of Vernon, where it was approved.

Vernon holds its municipal elections in April of every even-numbered year. Prior to Measure A, the five members of its city council each served for a four-year term. At the time of this ballot proposition, the terms of three members of the city council were set to end in April 2010, while the terms of the other two were set to end in April 2012.[1]

The changes enacted by Measure A are:

  • Each member of the city council is to serve for a five-year term (an increase of one year)
  • The terms of the city council members are now staggered so that one council seat comes up for election each year, including odd-numbered years.
