Patterson ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House, representing Texas' 1st District. He ran as a Libertarian candidate. He ran against incumbent Louie Gohmert (R) and Shirley McKellar (D) in the November 6, 2012, general election and lost to Gohmert.[1]
