Pinckney served in the South Carolina State House of Representatives from 1997 to 2000. He joined the South Carolina State Senate in 2001. He has served in that position since, representing the 45th district.
Pinckney is currently a student and also a Pastor for Mount Horry AME Church on Younges Island.
Pinckney was a Research Fellow at Princeton University in 1994. He then earned his BA from Allen University in 1995. He went on to receive his MPA from the University of South Carolina in 1999. He then attended Graduate Studies at Lutheran Southern Seminary in 1999.
