Clinton Maintenance Referendum (2008)
After this referendum was defeated, the Clinton school board voted to place the exact same measure before the voters a second time on the February 17, 2009 special election where it failed again. See Clinton Maintenance Referendum (2009).
Text of measure
BE IT RESOLVED by the School Board of the Clinton Community School District, Rock and Walworth Counties, Wisconsin that there shall be issued pursuant to Chapter 67 of the Wisconsin Statutes, general obligation bonds in an amount not to exceed $9,630,000 for the public purpose of paying the cost of constructing gym/music/art, office and kitchen additions, replacing the HVAC system and making site improvements at the Elementary School; upgrading and improving the plumbing, electrical and fire protection systems and undertaking various repair, replacement and improvement projects at the Elementary and Middle Schools; making security and safety improvements and acquiring furniture, fixtures and equipment at all District buildings.
Defeated by 28 votes, 1,402 to 1,430. After this defeat, the Clinton school board voted to place the exact same measure before the voters a second time on the February 17, 2009 special election. The measure was defeated again on 2/17/09, with 579 "yes" votes and 968 "no" votes.
