One down ballot state executive positions was up for election in the state of Colorado in 2014. The lone down ballot office on the 2014 general election ballot was the Colorado Treasurer. The general election took place November 4, 2014.

Incumbent Walker Stapleton (R) won re-election to the office in 2014. He defeated former U.S. Rep. Betsy Markey (D) and Libertarian candidate David Jurist for another four-year term.

Colorado is one of 21 states with a mixed primary system. The primary is considered closed, but unaffiliated voters may choose to affiliate with a party on election day in order to vote.[1]

Duties

The treasurer is the state's cash management officer and head of the Department of Treasury, which accounts for and manages the Colorado government's money. The treasury receives all revenues in the form of taxes, fees and other payments, disburses money based on warrants (checks), and manages the state's investment funds. As in many states, the treasurer also manages the state's unclaimed property fund.
