A Columbia Energy Shares Purchase Bond Measure was on the April 5, 2011 ballot in the city of Columbia which is in Boone County.

This measure was approved

  • YES 8,978 (8601%)Approveda
  • NO 1,460 (13.99%)[1]

This measure sought to create a bond in the amount of $49.5 million in order to purchase the Columbia Energy Center from Ameren Energy Marketing. The city already owns 25 percent of the center, but this will allow for the entire center to be owned by the city. City officials noted that owning the center will allow them to ensure they have a stable energy source rather than just leasing part of it. Utility rates will not increase with the purchase and the city expects to save on operational costs.[2]

The Columbia City Chamber of Commerce has issued an endorsement for this measure noting that it would save the city money in the long run.[3]
