A Columbia Fire Protection District parcel tax
ballot question was on the June 15 ballot
for voters in the Columbia Fire Protection District in Tuolumne County
, where it was defeated.
The proposed parcel tax would have been $80 per single-family dwelling and $40 per mobile home. Residents of the district had been paying a parcel tax for 12 years. That parcel tax expired on June 30 and was half the size of the proposed new tax. The parcel tax in effect at the time of this election raised $14,000/year for the fire district. The new tax, if it had passed, would have raised about $28,000/year for the district.
The election was conducted on a mail-in ballot basis. Ballots were mailed on May 1 and had to be returned by June 15.
