Bunde earned a B.S. in Speech Pathology from Central Washington University in 1966. He went on to earn his M.S. in Speech and Hearing Pathology from the same school. He earned his UAA Professional Piloting license from Anchorage Community College in 1984.
Bunde has served on the Alaska State Senate since 2002. During that time he has served on a number of committees and has been chair of the Labor & Commerce committee. Prior to the Senate, Bunde served in the Alaska House of Representatives from 1993-2002 where he chaired four committees and vice chaired three others.
