Connecticut repeals death penalty

HARTFORD , Connecticut: Last week, Governor Dan Malloy signed legislation which abolishes the death penalty as punishment for future crimes. Sixteen other states have already abolished capital punishment.[1]
A recent Quinnipiac University poll showed that 62% of voters support having the death penalty. It also showed that 47% of voters disapprove of the Governor's handling of the issues, while 33% approve.[1]
The law only abolishes capital punishment for those not already on death row and will not save those 11 people already awaiting the death penalty. However, those currently convicted of a capital felony that are not yet on death row will receive life imprisonment without any possibility of release, rather than death.[1]
