Continental School District Budget Override (November 2011)
This measure was approved
- YES 5,344 (53.81%)
- NO 4,587 (46.19%)
This measure sought to allow the district to exceed their state set budget by 15 percent for a period of six years. Since it was approved, a tax addition of $.14 per $100 of assessed property value will also be implemented. The school had tried in November to pass an override but it was narrowly defeated. The override money will go towards maintaining school programs and services. School officials noted the decrease in state funding as the primary need for additional revenues to maintain current levels of schooling.
Text of measure
The question on the ballot:
|Shall the Governing Board of Continental Elementary School District No. 39 of Pima County, Arizona, adopt a General Maintenance and Operation Budget which includes an amount that exceeds the applicable revenue control limit specified by statute by fifteen percent (15%) for fiscal year 2012-2013 and for six (6) subsequent years as described below? The 2012-2013 budget override authority represents an extension and increase of the existing ten percent (10%) budget override authority which is currently in its first year of the phase out period and has been reduced by one-third. If the override is not approved, the existing ten percent (10%) override will phase out by reducing another one-third for fiscal year 2012-2013 and terminate June 30, 2013.|
