A Madera County hotel tax, Measure D
ballot question was on the May 19, 2009 ballot
in Madera County
, where it was overwhelmingly defeated.
If Measure D had been approved, it would have increased the hotel tax charged within the county. At the time of the vote in May 2009 on Measure D, the county's hotel (or Transient Occupancy tax) was 9%. That went into effect on January 1, 1994. Although there are some exceptions, the tax generally applies "to any structure or other living space occupied by an individual, firm, partnership, association, social club or any other group acting as a unit for business or sleeping purposes and pay a customary fee to the operator of such a structure."
