Culver City Unified School District parcel tax, Measure EE, 2009
From Ballotpedia
A Culver City Unified School District parcel tax, Measure EE was on the November 3, 2009 ballot in Los Angeles County for voters in the Culver City Unifed School District, where it was approved.
Measure EE calls for an annual $96.00 parcel tax. The tax will last for five years. To pass, Measure EE had to earn a 2/3rds supermajority vote.
The question asked on the ballot was, "To protect the quality of education in Culver City schools from deep State budget cuts by providing stable local funding to maintain: math, science, technology, music and art programs; updated instructional materials; quality teachers; school libraries; and small class sizes; shall Culver City Unified School District levy an annual tax of $96.00 per parcel for 5 years only, with exemptions for seniors, independent oversight, no money for administrators’ salaries, and all funds staying in Culver City to benefit our local schools?"
Supporters
Five of six candidates for seats on the Culver City School Board attended a forum in September during which all five expressed their support for Measure E. They are: Alan Elmont, Patricia Siever, Kathy Paspalis, Robert Zirgulis, and Karlo Silbiger. Zirgulis said he is usually "opposed to new taxes, especially during a recession" but he is supporting EE because "the situation in the schools is dire.”[1]
Supporters of Measure EE sponsored a march in Culver City on September 26 to express their enthusiasm for a "yes" vote on Measure EE.[2]
