Foster earned his BA in Biochemical Sciences from Harvard College in 1970. He went on to receive his MD from Stanford University School of Medicine in 1974. He then received his Surgical Residency from Tulane University Associated Hospitals in 1979.
Foster worked as a surgeon for Charleston Surgical Group, Incorporated from 1979 to 2001. He has worked as a physician/physician administrator for the Charleston Area Medical Center since 2001.[1]
