Elections for the office of Alabama State Senate took place in 2014. A primary election took place on June 3, 2014; a runoff election took place where necessary on July 15, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature-filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was February 7, 2014. Stephen Sexton, Harry D'Olive, Jr., Danny B. Joyner, Greg Albritton and Jeff Peacock faced off in the Republican primary. Because no candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote, the top two vote-getters - Albritton and D'Olive - met in a runoff election, which Albritton won.[3] Incumbent George M. "Marc" Keahey (D) withdrew before the Democratic primary and party leaders chose Susan Smith (D) as a replacement on June 10, 2014.[4][5][6][7][8] Albritton then defeated Smith in the general election on November 4, 2014.[9]
