Fried was a candidate for District 14 of the New Jersey General Assembly. Fried and Wayne Wittman were bracketed together and defeated Bruce MacDonald in the June 7 Republican primary. He withdrew after the primary and was replaced on the Republican ticket by Sheree McGowan.
Incumbents Daniel Benson and Wayne DeAngelo ran unopposed in the Democratic primary. Steven Welzer is also running as an Independent in the November 8 general election.[2]
