Lawson served in the United States Air Force, including a tour of duty in Vietnam. He became a police officer in Milford, Delaware for four years, and then joined the Delaware State Police in 1973.
Retiring in 1992, he and a partner opened an indoor shooting range named Shooter's Choice. He recently sold the range, but continues to work as Director of Training.[1]
