David Wright is a former member and Chairman of the South Carolina Public Service Commission. He was first appointed to the commission on March 3, 2004, elected vice chairman in July of 2010, and then chairman in July 2012. His term was set to expire on June 30, 2014,[1] but he chose to retire on May 31, 2013.[2]


Prior to his election to theSouth Carolina Public Service Commission, Wright was self-employed for more than 25 years, having owned and/or operated several retail, commercial and professional services businesses. He has an extensive background in retail, commercial and political advertising and public relations, and has worked as a strategic consultant in all areas. Wright also has a strong background in planning and staging events as well. Adding to his broad and varied background, Wright has his real estate license and is a licensed auctioneer in South Carolina.[1]

Political career

Public Service Commission (2004-2013)

Wright was first appointed to the commission on March 3, 2004, was elected vice chairman in July of 2010, and was elected chairman in July 2012. His term would have expired on June 30, 2014,[1] but he resigned early, retiring on May 31, 2013, stating, “I’m still young enough to do something else. I’m looking for a challenge.”[2]



Wright was reappointed to the South Carolina Public Service Commission by the South Carolina General Assembly on May 26, 2010.[3]
