Demuzio lost her bid for re-election to the 49th District Seat in the Illinois State Senate against Republican William "Sam" McCann.[2] The election took place on November 2, 2010. Demuzio ran unopposed in the Democratic primary election on February 2nd.[3]
According to political experts, Demuzio's senate race was considered to be one of the most expensive out of all races contested in 2010.[4].
2006
On November 7, 2006, Demuzio won re-election to the Illinois State Senate District 49, receiving 43,324 votes, ahead of Republican Jeff Richey's 29,223 votes.[5]
