Controversy
On April 17, 2013, while speaking on a bill targeting the pricing practices of 'big-box stores' such as Walmart and Best Buy, Johnson noted that customers to his own store "might try to jew [him] down on a price." Johnson continued to speak until a fellow representative raised a point of contention with his language. He then said, "I apologize to the Jews. They're good small businessmen as well," which drew laughter from the chamber but also subsequent criticism. Speaker T.W. Shannon (R) said that Johnson later apologized to him, "most regretful and deeply sorrowful." The Oklahoma legislature did not have a Jewish member in either chamber at the time of the comments.[8][9]
