Kruse was a Township Trustee for Jackson Township of DeKalb County from 1983 to 1999. He then served as Vice-Chair of the DeKalb County Republican Party from 1997 to 1999. He was also Precinct Committeeman from 1970 to 2002. From 1990 to 2002 he was a delegate at the Indiana Republican Party Convention. Kruse served in the Indiana State House of Representatives from 1989 to 2004. He was then appointed to the Indiana State Senate by District 14 Republican Delegates in April of 2004. He has served in that position since, representing the 14th district.
Kruse worked as a Real Estate Broker in 1968. He has also been Assistant to Corporate Officers at Ambassador Steel. He has been owner/President of Dennis Kruse and Associates, Auctioneering and Real Estate from 1968 to the present. He has also worked as an Auctioneer for Kruse International, Collector Car Auctioneers since 1971. Currently, he is also Auctioneer/Owner of Reppert School of Auctioneering and has been since 1996.
Kruse graduated from the Reppert School of Auctioneering in 1964. In 1966 he attended Purdue University Life Insurance Institute. He attended Anderson University from 1967 to 1968. He earned his BS from Indiana University in 1970. He then received his GRI and CAI from Indiana University in 1974 and 1979, respectively.
