Issues

Campaign themes

2012

From Tracy's campaign webiste:[1]

Dick is concerned about

  • Lack of balance in state government.
  • One party rule - legitimate concerns of other perspectives have been ignored.
  • Over-reliance on the Federal government to fund state government.
  • The cost of state government - current budget projects to spend over $5 BILLION.
  • $3 billion in unfunded liabilities for the state employees' and teachers' retirement funds.
  • State government take over of Vermont's medical system without sufficient cost-benefit analysis.
  • Cost of education (K-12 among the highest in the nation).
  • Scarcity of good paying jobs for the youngsters we spend so much to educate.
  • Energy costs - under current state policy Vermonters will be forced to pay higher than necessary electric rates, and those high costs will be a disincentive to businesses that could create jobs.

Dick will provide Vermonters with

  • Leadership experience.
  • Common sense and analytical approach to problem solving.
  • Cost conscious budgeting.
  • The willingness to challenge the status quo by asking tough questions and insisting upon solid complete answers.
