Kopp joined the South Dakota State House of Representatives in 2009. He has served in that position since, representing the 35th District.
Kopp has worked in the following positions: member of the United States Navy, Incident Commander for the United States Forest Service/National Park Service, Special Projects Forester/Lead Fire Investigator, Owner of a Forestry Consulting Business, and Author of Modern Science and An Ancient Text. He also worked as Commander/Professional Forester for the South Dakota Division of Forestry from 1969 to 1998. Kopp and his wife, Joanne, have three children.
