Miller began his political career by working on the presidential campaign for Ronald Reagan. After gaining experience working on various campaigns, he founded a political campaign consulting firm. Internationally, he has worked as an unofficial adviser to leaders of the People's Republic of China. Outside of the political realm, Miller works as a Quality Manager for an engineering firm.
Miller earned his B.A. in political science from SUNY Buffalo in 1988, an M.A. in teaching and an M.A. enhancement in education administration from Lee University, Tennessee. He and his wife Tracy now have two daughters.

He also ran on the Conservative Party and Independence Party of New York State tickets. He was defeated by Albert A. Stirpe in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012. [1][2]

Miller was uncontested in the September 14 Republican primary. After a close election, Miller defeated incumbent Albert Stirpe (D) in the general election on November 2. Stirpe conceded defeat after the unofficial count of absentee ballots gave Miller at 953 vote lead. [3]
