McKillip is an Attorney with Lancaster and McKillip, PC. He worked as an Attorney for Winburn, Lewis & Barrow, PC from 1992-1996.
He is a member of the Cedar Creek Homeowners Civic Association, Vice President of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association of the Western Circuit and Georgia Bar Association, and member of the First Presbyterian Church.[1]
Party switch
Following his re-election as a Democrat in the 2010 general election, McKillip switched to the Republican Party. He explained, "As an independent-minded Republican, I can accomplish a great deal for my constituents and my city." Before the switch, McKillip had been elected to serve as minority caucus leader -- one of the top three leadership positions.[2]
