Gutwein won re-election in the 2012 election for Indiana House of Representatives District 16. Gutwein defeated Diana J. Boersma in the May 8 Republican primary and defeated Richard Ludington (D) in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012. [2][3]

Gutwein was endorsed by the National Rifle Association in the State House race in 2012.[4] Gutwein was also endorsed by the Indiana Right to Life PAC on May 2, 2012.[5]
