A vote about whether to recall Douglas Marsden from his elected position as mayor of Bottineau, North Dakota, took place on June 12, 2012. Marsden was recalled from office.[1] The recall effort was launched in January 2012. Councilman Brad Gangl resigned in February 2012 amid allegations that he and Marsden had inappropriately awarded city contracts.[2]

Reasons for recall

Marsden and former Bottineau councilman Brad Gangl were accused of disrupting the city's business and inappropriately awarding the city's contracts.[2]

Path to the ballot

Petitions began circulating in February 2012.[2] Signatures were certified by the city auditor on March 16.[3] A recall election took place on June 12, 2012. Marsden was recalled and replaced with Ben Aufforth.[1]
