Cheatham ran in the 2012 election for Arkansas Senate, District 26. Cheatham and Gregg Reep defeated Johnnie Bolin in the May 22 Democratic primary. Cheatham then defeated Reep in the June 12 primary runoff election. He defeated Mike Akin (R) in the general election on November 6, 2012.[2][3][4][5][6]
