As of November 2012, Cutler is considered the presumptive Independent party candidate for the 2014 election for Governor of Maine.[1] Incumbent Gov. Paul LePage, a Republican first elected in 2010, plans to run for re-election in 2014.[2]

Cutler faced Elizabeth Mitchell (D), Paul LePage (R), Kevin L. Scott (I) and Shawn H. Moody (I) in the general election on November 2, 2010.

In an investigation, Maine Watchdog looked at the contributions to all Maine gubernatorial candidates and found that the largest share of Cutler’s financing came out of his own pocketbook at $925,000.00. His total contributions, as of October 2010, for the campaign were $1,355,000.00.[3]
