Wright is an attorney, and previously worked as a Law Clerk for Connecticut Supreme Court Justice Ellen Ash Peters, and Legislative Aide to House Majority Office, Speaker James Kennelly/Majority Leader William A. O'Neill.
He served on the Groton Town Council from 2001-2006, Groton Board of Education from 1989-1991 and a Groton Town Meeting representative from 1973-1975.[1]

On November 4, 2008, Wright won re-election to the Connecticut House of Representatives from Connecticut's 41st District, defeating Deborah Peruzzotti (R). Wright received 5,254 votes in the election while Peruzzotti received 3,299 votes.[5] Wright raised $31,206 for her campaign; Peruzzotti raised $30,000.[6]

The Yankee Institute, a pro-market think tank, releases its Voter Guide after each two-year legislative term. Each member of the Connecticut General Assembly receives a score from 0 to 10 based on how he or she voted in ten key votes. The Institute selects key votes which "reveal the differences between those legislators that would harness the power of individual liberty and the market to improve lives, and those that prefer a centrally-planned approach." A legislator with a 10 voted in agreement with the Yankee Institute on all 10 votes, while a legislator with a 0 voted against the Yankee Institute's views or was absent for all 10 votes.[8]
