Kimzey ran in the 2012 election for Rhode Island House of Representatives District 8. She was defeated by John Joseph Lombardi in the Democratic primary on September 11.[1][2]

Campaign themes
Kimzey has stated that she believes, "A good education is the foundation for future success. Libby will fight for a high quality public education system, including affordable college degrees." On taxation, she says she, "will fight to reduce property taxes for households and small businesses by building a fair tax structure and restoring state aid to Providence.[3]
