Elizabeth Mitchell was a Democratic member of the Maine State Senate. She represented District 24 since 2004, and served as President of the Senate during that time. Mitchell was re-elected in November of 2008. Before her time as Senator, Mitchell was a member of the Maine House of Representatives from 1974 to 1984 and 1991 to 1998. Mitchell was the 2010 Democratic candidate for the Maine Governor's race in 2010.

Mitchell graduated from Furman University with her Bachelor's degree and North Carolina with her Master's Degree. Mitchell later earned her law degree from Maine Law.

Mitchell is a practicing Attorney and a former teacher.

District 24

Mitchell represented Maine Senate District 24. District 24 includes a portion of Kennebec County[1].

Mitchell did not seek re-election to the 24th District Seat in 2010, although she was eligible to do so. She instead ran unsuccessfully for Governor of Maine. Paul LePage ran for the seat on the Republican ticket. The general election took place on November 2, 2010.


On November 4, 2008, Mitchell ran for District 24 of the Maine State Senate, beating Kimberly Davis.[2]

Mitchell raised $21,518 for her campaign.[3]

In an investigation, Maine Watchdog looked at the contributions to all Maine gubernatorial candidates and found that the largest share of Mitchell’s campaign funds were MCEA matching funds at $1,512,000.00. Her total contributions, as of October 2010, for the campaign were $1,626,100.00.[4]
