Elizabeth Steiner Hayward (b. December 10, 1956) is a Democratic member of the Oregon State Senate, representing District 17. She was first appointed to the chamber on January 5, 2012, to replace Senator Suzanne Bonamici, who resigned on November 21, 2011. As of the 2013 legislative session, Hayward serves as an Assistant Majority Leader.

Steiner Hayward was appointed by a vote of the local county commissioners, narrowly edging out Rep. Chris Harker for the seat.[1]


Steiner-Hayward earned a BA in Religion in the Humanities from the University of Chicago in 1985 and a MD from the University of Massachusetts in 1991. Her professional experience includes being the Direction of the Breast Health Education Program at the Oregon Health & Science University Cancer Institute, working as an Associate Professor at the Oregon Health & Science University, and as a Reviewer for the Annals of Family Medicine.[2]

The signature-filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 11, 2014. Incumbent Elizabeth Steiner Hayward is unopposed in the Democratic primary.
