Ellen M. Corbett (b. 1954) is a Democratic member of the California State Senate. She was elected to a four-year term in November 2006 representing California's 10th Senate District. Her current term ends in 2010.

Corbett's prior political experience includes serving as a member of the California State Assembly from 1998-2004, when she was no longer able to run because of California's term limits. She has also been a city council member and mayor of San Leandro.

Corbett received her B.S. in Political Science from the University of California-Davis in 1977 and her Juris Doctor degree from the McGeorge School of Law in 1981. She worked as a professor at Chabot Las Positas Community College, as an assistant to Assemblyman Elihu Harris (1979-1981) and as an attorney in private practice at the Corbett Law Office from 1987-1998.

Corbett is a primary sponsor of Senate Bill 24, which would make it illegal to pay initiative circulators on a pay-per-signature basis.[1],[2]

The 10th district that Corbett represents in the senate includes the southern part of the East Bay Region, located directly south of California's 9th State Senate district. It includes the southern half of Alameda County and portions of Santa Clara County.

Cities in the district include Fremont, Hayward, Newark, San Leandro, Union City, Cherryland, Fairview, San Lorenzo and Sunol.[10]
