Jones was a Second Lieutenant/Captain in the United States Army Corps of Engineers in 1980. He then worked for IBM from 1981 to 1984. From 1986 to 1988 he worked for Arthur Anderson and Company. He then worked for Ford Motor Company Dealer Development in 1990. He has also been President/Owner of a variety of businesses, including the following: Legacy Ford of McDonough since 1992, Legacy Goodyear Tire Company of McDonough since 1995, Legendary Ford-Mercury of Marion, North Carolina, since 1998, Legacy Toyota of Union City since 1998, and ANSA Automotive of Macon and Los Angeles since 2002.
Jones earned his BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania in 1981. He went on to receive his MBA in Finance/Accounting from Columbia University in 1986.
